War of the Disk – Day 1

Posted by: zixiangx on: August 13, 2008

The machine coughed and spluttered, showing signs of exhaustion and failure. It churned loudly, with its high speed fan rotating, ready to get into the action. Suddenly, with no warning, the system went into knock out mode. It came to a complete halt, and screeching to a stop. The air in the room was tense, the day that everyone hate came true.

The hard disk in the Macbook Pro was down…

Day 1 of the War against the Hard disk in the Macbook Pro. At first I thought that it was just a malfunction that couldn’t affect much. I typed in the code and activate Code Yellow, and within minutes, Disk Utility activated itself. I gave the command to activate “Hard Disk Verification Act 1″ and it started to scan and verify my Hard Disk.

A message box pop up. It was too soon..Something must be wrong. I took a look at the error code, and it was a strange error message. I have never seen this alien life form before, although it was an alien life form, I took it with ease, believing that the MacBook Pro would not have fallen to such an measly alien invasion.

I gave the command to repair the disk, proudly looking down on the Alien message, confident that It would soon be annihilated by the Disk Utility.

I was wrong.. Dead wrong.

The disk utility started popping up messages, telling me the error couldn’t be fixed. This must be a mutated alien life form of some kind. I didn’t wanted to show how panic I was. I gave the call for “Code Orange”, level 2 alert, and started the research on Google on how to fix the error.

The process went on for hours, to no avail. I learned a lot through the process, things that I didn’t and wouldn’t have known if this didn’t happen. However, none of it were useful against the Alien Message. No matter what we tried, it displays the same message over and over again.

I had to do something, and to tell the truth, I’ve tried almost everything. I have even done things that people won’t usually (and cleverly) do, and I must admit I am quite proud in what I done to tried reviving the Macbook Pro.

But proud was no of use to me. I want my hard disk back. I need the files inside. Something needs to be done. I really hate hardware failure when I have not backup the important files. It means 6 months of school work gone like that. I really want to scold some stuff now =s.

I worked late into the night to no avail, and I decided to continue on the second day..
