Someone wanted a ePSXe on Crossover guide. I posted a video. Hope it helps.

Update: For those who followed the guide and still can’t get ePSXe to work, you might want to download Zlib1.dll and put it into your ePSXe folder. It should work properly after that.
If you do not have the Programs folder, you can create it.
For mine, its in “Administrator > Applications > Crossover Games”
so create the Crossover Games folder in “Administrator > Applications”.
the games, depends. for some 2D psx games like Suikoden, they run full speed for me, for some 3D psx games like Chrono Cross, they’ll slow down a bit at some heavily rendered areas, but otherwise they run pretty well, unable to notice the slight slowdown at all.
This is really sad, but it still won’t work. I do everything step by step. But when I right-click epsxe and open with Crossover games it never opens. I wonder if there is something else I need to do?
If ePSXe doesn’t open, it might most likely be the problem of Crossover rather then ePSXe. I would recommand you send a support ticket to Crossover, and after you fix the problem, then you can try the method I posted.
I’ve been able to run epsxe a few times but nothing ever works properly. For instance most of the time it won’t even allow me to open an iso and gives me an error message. The only way I’ve been able to get it to work is by installing epsxe into a new bottle and then do what was in your guide.
I’m starting to wonder if it’s a hardware related problem as well because when I do everything perfectly it just doesn’t load up at all. I’m wondering what kind of Mac are you using?
I’m using a Macbook Pro with an Intel Chip. Leopard OSX up to the latest current 10.5.5.
Yo! Wow, this seems to be the only place I can find anything about this… I’ve got epsxe in my applications folder, but when I right-click and open it using Crossover Games 7.1.1, it doesn’t work… it hops up and down above the little Crossover Games icon in my dock for a little while, but then just disappears… Sad.
UPDATE: Hmmm… Well… I can get epsxe 1.5.2 to work, but not the newer verson… Weird.
SO sorry for posting, but do you have a way to run games from a CD? I can’t seem to get that to work in 1.5.2
I’m using Crossover Games 7.0 with ePSXe 1.7. You can try to get the software versions I’ve mentioned. Thats the closest I can guess along with the video on top.
alright, thanks, what about CDs? Have you been able to get them to run??
About CDs, I’m not too sure, because I’ve been using ISOs. If the plugins for CD drives found with ePSXe doesn’t work, i guess you would be better off making a disc image of your CDs.
Ugh… That takes up so much memory… There’s got to be a way to get it to work.
Well… I can’t seem to get it to work with CDs, how would go about making a disk image of my games??
I’m not 100% sure but I think that unless your trying to run epsxe on a MacBook pro or possibly a high end iMac I don’t think it will work. I’ve tested so many different versions of epsxe by now that I’ve found a few that load, but none that work well at all on a macbook. Anyway thanks for all your information and help zixiangx, I really appreciate it.
Welcome. i don’t know too much about the Macbook/Pro differences but I’m using a Pro in my case. Anyway sure, I’m glad I did provide you with some information. =)
I am using a Pro and I’ve gotten everything running on the emulator besides the CD drive.
I finally got mine to work by adding the zlib1.dll file to my ePSXe directory. If you’re having trouble this might be your solution.

Alright! I’ll add that into the post.
I didn’t realized that, maybe because Zlib1.dll came with all my ePSXe installations.
Thanks again Dave.
After a few hours of testing and working on this, I finally got ePSXe 1.7.0 to run under CrossOver Games 7.1.1. What I did was install a game that made CrossOver create a bottle and the CrossOver Games folder, located in /home/user/Applications. I moved the ePSXe folder into the CrossOver Games folder, then deleted the bottle that CrossOver generated, created a new one that was version WinXP, and tried reopening ePSXe. Worked like a charm. Also, make sure that you have zlib.dll and zlib1.dll in your ePSXe folder; apparently the developers forgot to include them in their download or something.
Hope this helps anyone out there still trying to get it to work for them.
John, thanks for being so inventive–we’re glad it worked for you.
Best Wishes,

Oh wow, thanks for taking so much time to work on this! I love it. I’ve been wanting to play Final Fantasy 7 for years, and now I finally have a way to do it on my Mac. Thanks! I have one question for you: Do you remember it taking a long time for the game to load the first time? It keeps getting stuck when I go to load the ISO file. I’m going to try re-doing my ISO and see if that helps, but I also wanted to see what everyone has to say.
It really depends on what you mean by long there. Usually mine takes around 10+ seconds. If it hangs you might want to recheck your config / re do your iso like what you’re doing now.
Hope it helps.
Thanks a ton. Mine keeps freezing up for over 10 minutes when I try to run the ISO which leads me to think the ISO is bad. I will just make a new ISO.
Hay I have ePSXe running threw crossover games, and I have istalled Pete’s plugins, for openGL and sound, the ePSXe starts up no prob but I don’t have the ROM to run, I’m trying to get FF7 but i do not have the discs anymore, I’ve downloaded the game from loads of different sources and most of the time they are in the .RAR format, no prob I ”archive” it threw “newztoolz” and the I get an .IMG for it, then from the info I picked up, I figure now I have to mount it with disk utility, but I try to open the disk image and DU stops and gives me “could not attach file (not recognized), PLEASE ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APRECIATED, been trying to get this too work all damn weekend
And also could anyone tell me a good way to get ISO’s that do run on ePSXe on mac
sorry if that sounds too complicated, I don’t really know a way do describe it any simpler, any help would be great, thnx
hi! do you know how to use gamepads in crossover?
Crossover has no native support for gamepads.
I use Gamepad Companion to map my controller keys to the keyboard keys that are assigned in epsxe.
I’ve tried Crossover for Mac with “USB Overdrive” instead of Gamepad Companion, and it works very nicely, and never have to pay for it.
Hey everyone, I found that when I would try to right-click on epsxe.exe in the Applications folder and do “Open With Crossover Games”, it never ran. But, if in the Crossover Games menu I did File – Open then selected epsxe.exe through there, it ran perfectly fine.
Hope this helps anyone.
Hi everyone,
I’m running an Intel Mac and I can’t seem to get epsxe.exe to open. I’ve tried versions 1.7, 1.6, and 1.52. I’ve downloaded the Zlib1.dll and put it in the epsxe folder as well. Every time I try to open it, nothing happens. I’ve also tried opening the menu in CrossOver Games to File – Open, which hasn’t worked either. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your help!

Thank so much for making a guide. I just reinstalled Crossover Games again, and realized I don’t have anything in Programs? Any idea what I have to do?
Also how do the games run on your Mac? Are they full speed etc.
